As preparations for Christmas begin to really kick in over the next few weeks it can be hard to remember exactly what it’s all about. For many the religious roots of Christmas have been long forgotten and the mad panic of consumerism has well and truly taken over.
There are many opportunities to embrace the old saying ‘it is better to give than to receive’ this Christmas and Selsey offers ample avenues to make Christmas a happy time for those around you.
Did you know that over 14 million people in the UK currently live in poverty? In those areas where Universal Credit has been rolled out (of which Chichester District is one) there has been a 30% increase in people seeking support from Foodbanks.
Each year Selsey Town Council hosts the Community Christmas Lunch at the Town Hall. A chance for those who would perhaps otherwise be spending the day alone to sit together with others for a free lunch, gifts and community event. Volunteers give up their day; those in our community donate food, decorations and gifts to ensure every person who attends feels part of something special.
If you’re able to spare some time or make a donation call the numbers below.
Places can be booked by calling either 07827 517033 or 01243 696584
Like most towns across the country Selsey has a Foodbank which is operated and hosted by Selsey Methodist Church; we are one of the many groups in the area that can issue vouchers to those in need.
Christmas is a stressful time for everyone but for those who are facing unemployment and financial difficulties it can be particularly challenging.
Donations can be brought into the Selsey Town Council offices and at this time of year we would ask for a few treats to help everyone in our community have a little Christmas cheer.
